You may have noticed over the past several issues that we are putting a more personal face on PARCEL.  We have featured the USPS Postmaster General and the Board of Directors of Women in Logistics & Delivery Services (WILDS) on the April and July covers and feature articles. Industry leaders, like PMG Potter and the leaders of WILDS, are pivotal in directing parcel industry support operations to keep our industry strong.

Additionally, we feel strongly that our industrys shipping professionals the people that actually push those parcels out the door deserve a bit more recognition. Industry pros, like Lisa Tegtmeyer (PARCEL May), Kimberly Cox (PARCEL August) and Oscar Murray (coming PARCEL October) are your peers. Its you and people like Lisa, Kimberly and Oscar that allow our industry to deliver Americas goods every single day.

Its great for us to be able to publish articles that not only share the wisdom and experience these professionals possess (and are willing to share with peers) but, at the same time, bring recognition to deserving shippers. Focusing on people is our small contribution to give some recognition. If you have suggestions on industry professionals you feel deserve a bit more notice and who have expertise to share, please contact me, and well see if we can find ways to showcase them to our audience.

As the end of summer and the start of the peak of the shipping season is fast approaching, we are mired in what economists and government leaders are calling a slow down of our economy (I might use a bit stronger term). Whatever we call our current situation, its not good.  Things are tight and it looks like recovery may take awhile. As I have said many times this is not the time to bury your head in the sand. A bunker mentality will not help your company or your operation survive. Stay in touch with industry developments.  Now is the time to lead, not hide.

The PARCEL Forum is just around the corner October 6-8 at the Hyatt Regency OHare, Chicago
(www.PARCELforum.com). We have put together a forum that will help you find the solutions you need to prosper through this down turn. Do whatever you need to do to make it to the Forum but be sure you do make it. I want to see you there. You wont be sorry.

And, as always, thanks for reading PARCEL.
